A Busy Spring in Full Swing!

Spring has already been a busy and exciting season for Feeding Families of Alabama, and we are so grateful for all that has been happening throughout the communities we serve.

First, our March 9th open pantry day was a big one! Families came from across a wide area of North Alabama, and we gave out food to feed nearly 400 people. Checkout below some updates about our home-school classes, project with the Decatur Youth Center, and a generous food drive haul from local Hartselle High School Students!

We also had a wonderful turnout for our wind chime home-school class on March 18th. (Cover photo and pics below). Students from several communities joined us, and the day was full of fun and learning. The children had a great time, the parents enjoyed it as well, and everyone is already looking forward to next month’s class. We are especially thankful for Miss Emily, who teaches the home-school classes and has become such a favorite with the children and families.

April Earth Day Class

The next class planned is for Wednesday April 15th (11:00am) celebrating earth day. E’dee & Miss Emily will co-teaching a class about the importance of caring for the earth, along with a hands-on seed planting activity. Each child will take home a seed kit and learn how to water and care for their seedlings as they grow.

Then, at our May class, the students will bring their seedlings back, paint and decorate homemade flower pots, transplant their plants, and take them home as Mother’s Day gifts.

Decatur Youth Center

Another project keeping us busy each week is our work with the Decatur Youth Center. We are currently preparing lunches for about 50 students who go straight from school to tutoring sessions in the evenings, along with meals for their teachers. In addition to lunches and desserts for the week, we are also sending extra snacks home with the students each evening. It is a joy to support these young people in a practical and meaningful way.

Hartselle High School Grocery Haul

Students from the KEY club at Hartselle High put together an amazing food drive for Feeding Families. Huge shout out to them and their generosity and commitment to the community! Check out the haul below ⬇️
